Eardisley Tennis Club has been awarded
CLUB OF THE YEAR
in the 2011 Herefordshire Sports Awards
Eardisley Tennis Club is proud to have been awarded
Club of the Year by Herefordshire Sport in the 2011 Herefordshire Sports
Awards. This award covers all sports organisations across the county of
Herefordshire and is a fantastic achievement for the club and testimony
to the dedication and hard work of its members and volunteers. The presentation
of the award will take place on Tuesday 21 February 2012.
SPORT RELIEF 2012
EARDISLEY TENNIS CLUB HAS BEEN NOMINATED TO HOST
SAINSBURY'S SPORT RELIEF 2012 EVENT
Eardisley Tennis Club will host the "miler" event on Sunday 25th.,
March this year.
Recently contacted by Sport Relief the club was delighted to be given
the chance to take part. A spokesperson said; "When the opportunity arose
to play a major part in this national event we jumped at it. As a small
rural club, with a thriving membership, we're always looking at ways to
involve our community in sporting activities. Not only does Sport Relief
encourage participants to take exercise it contributes a tremendous amount
to charity. We're really pleased that we were singled out to lead in our
area".
There are three levels of entry to the event; one mile, three mile
and six mile courses. Eardisley Tennis Club has arranged for these to
be run, jogged or walked entirely off public roads. The one mile course
will be on road and hard track, the three mile course mainly on road with,
possibly, some softer going, the six mile course will be about half and
half road and softer going.
Starting at 2pm on the 25th., it's expected that the participants
will have completed their courses by about 4pm. As part of the overall
event the tennis club will be opening its facilities to non members, will
have refreshments on hand and other fund raising activities. Go along
and have some fun even if you don't want to run!

Star Junior Player
Last season Adam Bowen, one of our star junior players, successfully battled
his way through the qualifying heats in the Road to Wimbledon national
competition sponsored by HSBC. This very intense and competitive event
for U14 culminated in a series of knock out rounds at the holy grail of
tennis, Wimbledon. 64 girls and 64 boys battled their way through the
first two days of group stages. Unfortunately Adam was knocked out but
went on to fight a consolation place in the quarter finals. Although not
successful he had a great time and represented ETC very well.
Volunteers of the Year
At the recent Herefordshire and Worcestershire LTA AGM our club received
an award - Volunteer of the Year. Norma and Peter Bishop were successfully
nominated and won the award. They commented that it was "unfair that they
had been singled out because ETC's success is based on the enthusiasm
of all our members not just a few". However, on behalf of our club they
were proud to accept the award.
